Two individuals are facing firearm-related charges after a vehicle collided with a street sign early Monday morning.
At approximately 1:15 a.m., on Nov. 4, officers from the Winnipeg Police Service’s Central District saw a vehicle collide with a street sign near Notre Dame Avenue and Balmoral Street.
A loaded handgun and ammunition were found inside the vehicle. Both the male driver and female passenger were not injured in the collision.
An impairment-related investigation was launched as police took both the driver and passenger into custody.
A 20-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
- Within 2 hrs of Ceasing to Operate a Conveyance is Impaired with BAC Equal or Over 80mgs
A 23-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing similar firearms charges.
They were both released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
