High River RCMP are offering some tips on how to prevent auto theft (file photo)

The High River RCMP are offering some tips on keeping items from being pilfered.

First and foremost, they suggest people lock up their vehicles as lots of break-ins happen when vehicles are unlocked.

It's also advised to double-check to make sure all the doors and windows are secured to make sure the items in the car stay where they are.

On top of that, they are reminding people to never leave keys or key fobs in the vehicle and to either remove all valuables from the vehicle or move them so they cannot be seen if they have to remain in the vehicle.

Garage door openers that are left in vehicles can provide criminals access to the home and all its belongings, and vehicles that are left running and unattended are an ideal target for theft.

They are also asking people to report any suspicious activity to the police.

Any information on suspicious or illegal activity within High River can be passed along to the High River RCMP at 403-652-2356.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers either at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the "P3 Tips" app that is available on both Apple and non-Apple products.
