The provincial government is offering some grants to help fight racism and promote multiculturalism in the province.
They are providing up to $13.5 million over three years to help support community organizations and Indigenous communities while they promote the value and benefit of multiculturalism and intercultural connections through two grants.
Their Ethnocultural Grant Program will support community-led initiatives that promote multicultural diversity and foster inclusivity.
That includes supporting Indigenous community organizations to celebrate and share their culture and heritage.
Under this grant, there are two streams that groups can apply for.
Stream 1 will provide up to $50,000 for projects that will create opportunities for intercultural connections with both ethnocultural and Indigenous groups.
Stream 2 provides up to $15,000 to projects that will create opportunities that will celebrate diversity.
The Anti-Racism Grant Program also has two streams that support initiatives that are community-led and help to address and prevent racism, as well as helping communities to become more inclusive and accepting of multiculturalism.
The first stream provides upwards of $5,000 for projects that promote the awareness and the impacts of racism faced by Indigenous and racialized groups.
Stream 2 of this grant will provide up to $10,000 to community-led anti-racism projects.
This past spring, under the Ethnocultural Grant program, $5.1 million was provided to 182 projects that delivered programs that increased cross-cultural awareness.
On top of that, there were 49 anti-racism initiatives that received $424,000 from the Anti-Racism Grant.
"Our government is committed to working with communities to promote and foster respect and inclusion for all Albertans, regardless of cultural background or origin. These grants support locally driven initiatives that honour our multicultural communities and Indigenous and Métis Peoples in Alberta, helping build a strong and inclusive society," explained the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Muhammad Yaseen.
