Biggar RCMP responded to 61 incidents over the past week, ranging from traffic stops to vehicle thefts and break-ins. Sgt. Dereck Crozier reported on various occurrences handled by the detachment, including traffic enforcement efforts, a series of vehicle collisions, and theft incidents that spanned the region.
Traffic Enforcement and Road Incidents
In a week focused on traffic safety, RCMP issued 19 tickets and 11 warnings. Among notable traffic incidents, a white Dodge Journey ended up undrivable after leaving Highway 14 east of Perdue and landing in the ditch. Two vehicles also had unfortunate encounters with wildlife: a black Mazda CX-90 struck a deer on Highway 4 north, and a black Toyota Echo hit another deer on Highway 376.
Emergency services were deployed to Highway 14 for a rollover involving a white 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The driver, a resident of Landis, fled the scene, prompting a search by drone and canine units. The individual was later found hiding in his home.
In another traffic incident, a 32-year-old woman from Regina received a three-day driving suspension after being caught under the influence of marijuana while driving her blue Honda Civic on Highway 14.
Break-ins and Theft Reports
RCMP are investigating a break-in at a residence in Perdue, where the suspect appeared to have used the home like a hotel but left without taking anything. Meanwhile, a break-in at the RM of Glenside’s maintenance shop led to the theft of several small tools.
Vehicle Theft Spree
A recent string of vehicle thefts has RCMP on high alert, with a thief seemingly swapping stolen vehicles across locations. A truck stolen from the Perdue Golf Course was later found in Kerrobert, while a stolen GMC Sierra from Kerrobert turned up on 3rd Avenue East. Another stolen F-350 was recovered on 6th Avenue East. Sgt. Crozier humorously hinted that, much like a famous green frog, this elusive thief may eventually be caught.
