Holy Trinity Catholic School Division transports close to 1200 students to and from school every day in the division.
They recently released their biannual Transportation Accountability Report, showing that bus capacity utilization is at 88.2 per cent. Curt Van Parys, CFO with the division, said that number is consistent with the previous several years, representing a good utilization of buses.
Van Parys spoke about efficiencies, including buses that do ‘double runs’ dropping off students at more than one school, and using the ‘Bus Planner’ software to help with setting up routes.
“Compared to three years ago, we have increased the number of students that we bus in the city of Moose Jaw by close to 7 per cent, where at the same time, the mileage that we incur has gone down by 33 per cent,” he explained
He added that students have an average ride time of approximately 28 minutes.
