The Rural Municipality of De Salaberry is working on upgrades in the area.
Reeve Darrel Curé says they are excited to have baseball diamonds by the Grotto in St Malo once again
“Right now, the RM is working with the parish that owns that piece of property. And we are working with them to establish the baseball diamonds on the parish’s land.”
He says there is the Chapel further south on the property, but as you drive in, there’s a large open field.
“There used to be baseball diamonds there and we want to reestablish those diamonds again. So right now, we're just in the agreement stages with the parish to try to get this all sorted out, so that we can set those ball diamonds up again.”
Chief Administration Officer Denise Parent says if all goes well, the project will begin next year.
She adds that they are setting up a greenspace in Otterburne.
“A lot of work has been done this past summer, adding a portable biffy, picnic tables, and about 150 trees have been planted. We've also managed to get $66,000 worth of grants to be able to further some work in the Otterburne area.”
Curé shares that they have also done some reconstruction on the Crow Wing Trail around Otterburne.
“There was kind of some maintenance required. There was also that Big Red Chair that was part of that project. So, I think those are good things. The communities have really seen a lot of good in the last year. These things are very encouraging, and they bring people back together.”
He says that since COVID, they are really seeing the community get involved again.
“We're seeing that people come back together. I'm seeing the projects come back to fruition. Like all these things are positive, it's like we're getting back to where we used to be, and we can see the people being happy to spend some time back with their friends and neighbours.”
Council is excited to see all these projects be completed and see how they bring the community together.
