The Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) is excited to announce the opening of a new youth hub at 1200 Saskatchewan Avenue, offering a range of support services for local youth aged 15 to 29. This new initiative, funded to better serve the community's younger population, aims to provide a safe, welcoming space where young people can access cultural supports, wellness services, life skills training, and more.
Mari Kozar, the Executive Director of PCRC, says the youth hub is designed to meet the diverse needs of young people in the area.
"Whether it's housing, mental health support, or just someone to talk to, we're here for them. We also offer resources to help with recreation and personal development, making sure our youth have the tools they need to succeed."
In addition to the youth hub's services, PCRC is launching a logo contest to engage the community and involve youth in shaping the space's identity. The theme of the contest is "Tawacin on Kiksuye" which is a Dakota phrase meaning "learns by heart", reflecting the hub's commitment to both education and cultural connection. The winning logo will be digitized and used to brand the space, and the designer will receive an honorarium for their work.
PCRC is also forming a youth advisory committee, inviting young people to contribute their ideas and perspectives on the programs and services offered at the hub.
"This is an opportunity for youth to have a direct voice in shaping the future of the space and ensuring it truly reflects their needs."
The youth hub is open for drop-in visits, and PCRC encourages all local youth to take advantage of the resources available. For more information on the logo contest or advisory committee, visit PCRC’s website.
