Among the subdivisions in the Horizon School Division where candidates are contesting for a seat on the division board is subdivision 3. The area includes Viscount to the north, Watrous in the south and Nokomis in the extreme southeast.
Jennifer Lemky is a retired nurse and former in EA within the Horizon School Division. She is the incumbent having served in the trustee position since 2012. She’s been the chairperson of the School Community Council for Viscount School where her daughters attend.
“My time on the school board has allowed me to represent the Horizon Board provincially with the SSBA (Saskatchewan School Board Association) on various committees,” says Lemke in her candidate statement. “Locally I have held the position of Vice Chairperson, Chairperson of the Governance and SCC Engagement Committees.”
Lemky says her passion is the education of students in Horizon, and that she is a huge advocate of mental health awareness given her background in acute mental health care. Lemky hopes to continue to advocate for students of Horizon, especially in the areas of safety, equity, inclusion and classroom complexity.
Meanwhile, Jenna Hale is running as a subdivision 3 candidate residing on a mixed farm near Plunkett. Hale is a graduate of USask with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
She currently works as a financial advisor at Conexus Credit Union.
Hale is hoping to continue her tenure with the Division Board after having served from 2019 to now in subdivision 1. She hopes to continue her advocacy for mental health and well-being of students, staff & families; class complexity; and early childhood education. She also champions cultural, equality and diversity education; and the skills that students need to graduate and find a place in this world where they will flourish.
“I love our public schools and would love to continue on the board in Subdivision 3 for 2024-2028,” Hale says in her candidate statement.
