The seasonal shopping sensation, Moonlight Madness, is just around the corner, and Humboldt’s businesses along with the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District are gearing up. Moonlight Madness takes place on Thursday, November 21.
Along with the standard features and entertainment that’s expected with the merchants’ seasonal liftoff, shoppers can expect some new features.
“This year, we have added a lot of fun new things,” says Alyssa Hergott, chairperson of the Humboldt Downtown BID. “We are putting firepits around the downtown so that people can warm up as they go between businesses. We are bringing BID Buck back again – these are worth five dollars each and can be used at businesses for Moonlight Madness only at participating downtown businesses.”
BID members and downtown businesses will be distributing BID Bucks on the street during the event. The Humboldt and District Museum will host activities for the kids, along with hot chocolate refreshers, while a musical interlude will be provided at the Gallery. There will also be a celebration of the Friends Festival, the newly renamed auction fundraisers celebrating its 25th year.
There’s more fun with our old pal Ebenezer Scrooge who will be fronting historic downtown tours throughout the evening at 15 minute intervals. Horse and carriage rides will circle the downtown. Bolt FM will be live on location at various businesses throughout the day and the evening.
New to the festivities this year will be a parade featuring Santa along with winter inspired floats featuring local businesses and organizations. Santa will be on hand to greet the kids. Hergott says the parade route will be a short one to accommodate the chilly weather. Businesses can participate in the parade by connecting with the BID through its Facebook page or by talking to one of the members.
Of course, the Humboldt Downtown Businesses will have specials on throughout the evening for shoppers to take advantage of. The BID Bucks will be flowing at local businesses ahead of and during the event. With all the entertainment and activities, it will be a Streetfest feel all over again with a Christmas spin at this year’s Moonlight Madness on November 21.
