It took nearly five months, but Dillon Peeace’s attempted murder case was finally resolved in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday.
As part of a court order, lawyer Brian Pfefferle appeared via telephone on behalf of his client.
In June, Peeace took a plea deal for his role in a machete attacked in downtown Moose Jaw that took place on Sept. 28, 2023.
Peeace was initially charged with two counts of attempted murder. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated assault endangering the life of the victim instead of one count of attempted murder. He also pleaded guilty to outstanding charges of breaking and entering and failing to attend court. He was sentenced to two years behind bars.
As part of the plea deal, Provincial Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker agreed to stay the second count of attempted murder with a signed statutory declaration. Parker told the court on Wednesday he had successfully received the declaration and stayed the charge.
It was a long time coming to complete the plea deal. Pfefferle and multiple agents on behalf of Pfefferle asked for a number of adjournments between June and November to get the declaration signed. Parker had previously voiced concerns about the length of time it was taking to get the paperwork signed.
