In a heartfelt gesture of remembrance, Morden's Royal Canadian Legion Branch #11, led by President Bob Frost, celebrated the recent honorary renaming of a local street to "Veterans Way." The newly installed signage along North Railway in Morden serves as a tribute to veterans past and present, symbolizing the community's ongoing commitment to honoring those who served Canada.
A project months in the making
“This project really began in August,” said Frost, who presented the idea at a Morden City Council meeting. Following further discussions, the council approved the signage and bylaw in October, ensuring its installation well ahead of the community’s Remembrance Day services.
Community pride and collaboration
Frost expressed deep appreciation for the collaboration with Morden’s Mayor and Council, emphasizing the positive feedback he’s received from both the Legion executive team and the general public. “The signs are not only a striking addition to the community but also a powerful testament to our veterans,” he said.
A Lasting Symbol of Respect
The Morden Legion, which has long maintained a strong relationship with the local government, sees this project as a significant step in its mission to promote remembrance. Frost added that the timing of the installation underscores the City’s dedication to honoring veterans’ legacies, particularly as Remembrance Day approaches.

Council's commitment to honor veterans
Morden City Council unanimously passed Bylaw 14-2020 on October 26, giving North Railway Street the honorary secondary name. The designation spans from 4th Street to 12th Street, recognizing the bravery and sacrifices of the city’s veteran community.
Mayor Nancy Penner expressed her pride in the initiative, saying, "I'm really pleased that it is there. It gives us all a visual reminder as we honor those who have served our nation with unparalleled bravery and sacrificed for our country." The signage aims to inspire reflection and respect for veterans, symbolizing the city's commitment to preserving their legacy.
