A major crash along Highway 59 has Selkirk RCMP asking the public for assistance in discovering what caused the accident.

On Wednesday, November 6, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Selkirk RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 59, that occurred on the bridge just south of Springhill Winter Sports Park.

The initial investigation has determined that a vehicle, heading south, lost control on the bridge. This resulted in a chain reaction of collisions that involved nineteen vehicles.

When officers arrived on scene, they immediately began re-routing vehicles to avoid further collisions at the site.

Officers from Red River North RCMP detachment, along with other emergency responders including nearby fire departments and ambulances were all on scene to assist motorists with a variety of minor injuries.

A 55-year-old man from Tyndall, was located deceased on scene.

Those working the case believe that icy road conditions were a factor in the collision.

Selkirk RCMP are asking anyone who was travelling on Highway 59, heading in either the north or southbound lanes between the hours of 6:30-7:00am and may have dash-cam footage, to contact the detachment at 204-482-1222.

Selkirk RCMP along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
