The 12th annual Paws for Pledges Radiothon, broadcast live today on Country 100 from the Moose Jaw Humane Society animal shelter, has wrapped up with a resounding success, exceeding its hoped-for total of $95,000.
As of the end of the radiothon at 6 p.m., Paws for Pledges had raised $106,789.
Country 100 broadcasted live on location from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., raising funds for the Moose Jaw Humane Society to help support the humane society for their day-to-day costs, emergencies, vet bills, and much more.
“Well, we are just really hoping for a successful year and, again, we are the community of Moose Jaw’s humane society so we would love to see our community come out and show their support,” said humane society executive director Dana Haukaas.
Following the conclusion of the radiothon, Haukaas and her staff expressed their gratitude for all the help from the community. Discover Moose Jaw will have a follow-up article with more interviews, photos, and details soon!
Children were out of school for the day and were a major radiothon presence at the Humane Society, cuddling kittens, petting puppies, petitioning parents and other relatives for adoption, getting glitter tattoos, and more.
Over the past 11 years, the Country 100 Paws for Pledges Radiothon has raised over $1 million for the shelter. There was iced tea, popcorn, a colouring table, and participation from local organizations like the Moose Jaw Fire Department, Keon Garden Centre, the Moose Jaw Animal Clinic, and many more.
