The winter season is fast approaching which means residents will be bundling up in warm clothing again.
However, not every family can afford a new winter coat.
Enter the Wheatland County Coats program. The initiative accepts gently used winter coats, hats, boots, mitts, and snowpants.
Residents can drop off clothing at the county's administrative office.
"The coats come in, they're deemed that they're useable for another family and then they're given out for free to anybody in need," mentioned Crystal Gaudet, chief administrative officer with Wheatland Family and Community Support Services.
Gaudet says there is no application process, and anyone who lives in Wheatland County and Strathmore can use the program.
"It allows families to save on those extra expenses that come up at the beginning of the year with school fees, and sports fees. We can provide these coats to kids going back to school."
Gaudet explained that newcomer families can also take advantage of the initiative.
"It allows them to get outfitted to stay warm all winter."
