Dan Mazier being sworn in as an MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa

The recent talks with the federal environment committee regarding Jasper National Park and the massive fire this summer. Dan Mazier, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, says that what has come out of the hearing regarding the fire has him very concerned about the lack of communication from Parks Canada.

With issues this summer coming to light over zebra mussels in Riding Mountain National Park, Mazier says the government still doesn't seem to have answers to how the issue started.

"I guess the issue that we have in the lake, there was a curtain that was put on. It broke basically two weeks after it was put in, everybody was wondering, 'What the heck was going on with this? How was this curtain going to stop zebra mussels?' And the biggest concern of all this is that they've told nobody. It took me asking the question in behind the scenes. There was nothing communicated about what's next and that and that's the biggest thing. And this is what comes down to the communications. What are the locals telling you versus Parks Canada? This is all run very poorly. It's on the very fine line of being negligent."

Mazier highlights that he has been hearing from residents of his riding near Clear Lake

"Forward your letters to the Minister and. And then meanwhile, loop us in and then we'll keep on putting pressure on it. And these issues aren't going to go away. And I think the sooner the communities can start rallying around and start Addressing them at the at the ground level, I think would be better off for everybody."
