Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie is set to host its first-ever Winter Wonderland event from November 22 to 24 at Trinity United Church. The family-friendly event promises a magical experience with winter and Christmas-themed rooms to explore, festive entertainment, and an array of activities to enjoy.
Executive Director Dawn Froese shared details about the event,
"Visitors can stroll through the church and admire the beautifully decorated rooms, each showcasing a unique winter or holiday theme. A special highlight will be a live choir performance on Friday night. Children will have the chance to meet Santa Claus, as well as characters Anna and Elsa, who will be available for photos."
The event will also feature a gingerbread contest, with three categories for participants to compete: 10 and under, 11 to 17, and 18 plus. Attendees can vote for their favourite gingerbread creations, with prizes sponsored by Homestead Co-op. The weekend will also offer a crafters market, silent auction, and opportunities to purchase holiday-themed decorations, including pre-decorated artificial Christmas trees.
A special adult-only coffee house will take place on Saturday night, offering entertainment and a cozy atmosphere. Proceeds from the event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.
"The programs that we run within our community and within the region are all about mentoring children. So, the money we raise will go towards our mentoring program."
Tickets are available for purchase at the door, at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, or online through their website, where a QR code allows for easy ticket registration.
