Three candidates will be vying for the open council seat in the upcoming Winkler by-election. Ryan Hildebrand, Dustin Brown and Pam Fedack will be on the ballot on election day which is December 12th.

You will be able to cast a ballot at the Meridian Exhibition Centre from 8am to 8pm on election day. Advance voting will be available December 4th only at City Hall, also from 8am to 8pm.

Mobile voting places will be set up on election day at several healthcare facilities for those who live in those facilities and are qualified to vote:

1. Boundary Trails Health Centre from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

2. Eden Mental Health Centre from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

3. Salem Home from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Meanwhile, for the purpose of accommodating persons who are qualified to vote, but have mobility challenges, a mobile voting station will be provided at Winkler Heritage Village at 346 6th Street, from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

The Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce will host an all candidates forum Monday, November 18th beginning at 6pm, and will be live-streamed only. Questions for the candidates can be submitted to the Chamber ahead of time by emailing director@winklerchamber.com .

The by-election winner will join Councillors Andrew Froese, Michael Grenier, Don Friesen, Marvin Plett, Peter Froese and Mayor Henry Siemens on City Council.

The by-election was prompted by the recent passing of former councillor Don Fehr. The winning candidate will have about two years left on the existing term, with the next municipal election set for October 2026.
