Continuing our pre-election look at candidates for Horizon School Division Board of Trustees positions, we shift our focus to subdivision 6 which includes Horizon School communities of Quill Lake and Wadena.
Christine Gradin is the current trustee for the region. Christine also serves on the Saskatchewan School Boards Association Executive as Central Constituency Representative, having served for two terms.
Gradin, her husband and four children reside on their family farm in the Hendon region. Gradin worked for the Horizon Division for sixteen years during which time she served as a receptionist to receiving certification in Local Government Administration and becoming a Secretary-Treasurer before assuming the role of Superintendent of Transportation & Maintenance.
Gradin says her years of service as a trustee puts her at the 25-year service mark in the Saskatchewan Education system, a role which she says is a true passion.
The second candidate is Mary Ann Jones. Jones grew up in Quill Lake and attended school from K-12 there.
After High School, she received certificates in Office Education and Local Government Authority, and a Diploma in Criminal Justice. She currently lives on a grain farm near Dafoe with husband Kevin and their five children, who attend school within Horizon Division. Jones is self-employed and runs a successful holistic practice with certifications in several modalities.
“As a dedicated mother advocating for education and support for all children, I firmly believe in providing every child with the necessary resources to achieve their full potential,” Jones says in her candidate statement. “I'm full of ideas to make education better for all students and help create a brighter future.”
She believes her work, life experience and involvement in education as a parent make her an ideal candidate as a trustee on the Board.
