The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have earned a fifth consecutive trip to the Grey Cup. Kenny Lawler caught three touchdown passes and Brady Oliveira ran for 119 yards and a major as Winnipeg defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 in the CFL’s West Division Final in from of a sold-out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium. Zach Collaros completed 19-of-26 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Evan Holm had four knockdowns and two tackles. The Blue Bombers will face the Toronto Argonauts in the 111th Grey Cup next Sunday in Vancouver. The Argos took advantage of six Montreal turnovers and former Bomber Janarion Grant returned a punt 71-yards for a touchdown as Toronto beat the Alouettes 30-28 in the East Division Final.


The Winnipeg Jets are the first team in NHL history to win 14 of their first 15 games to start a season. Vladislav Namestnikov and Alex Iafallo each had a goal and an assist as Winnipeg downed the Dallas Stars 4-1 at Canada Life Centre. Rasmus Kupari and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck, who had back-to-back shutouts, stopped 32 shots and set a franchise record for the longest stretch without allowing a goal – 191 minutes and 47 seconds.


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 5-2 decision to the Texas Stars. Mason Shaw and Ben King did the goal scoring for the Moose who have lost six of their last seven games.


Connor Hoemsen had a five-point night with four goals and an assist in the Southwest Cougars 8-2 victory over the Interlake Lightning. Bryan Laing added a pair of goals for the Cougars while singles went to Lynden Gould and Shane Elder. Southwest goaltender Brodie Cameron made 35 saves.


The Virden Oil Capitals fell 5-0 to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. Quincy Supprien scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season and Alex Reedy made 22 saves for the MJHL’s West Division leading Blizzard.


Tyler Rogers had a goal and two assists, and the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Vincent Massey Vikings downed the Sandy Bay Badgers 7-2. Beckham Clarke scored twice as Virden beat Boissevain/Deloraine/Waskada/Pierson 5-2. Ethan Carnegie had two goals and two assists in the Dauphin Clippers 9-1 victory over Vincent Massey (2). Sam Lacasse scored 48 seconds into overtime to lift the Swan Valley Tigers past the Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors 4-3. Owen McLean had a goal and two assists, and the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats beat the Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn/Birdtail Falcons 6-2.


The Virden Oil Kings, Minnedosa Bombers and Neepawa Farmers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Saturday night. The Oil Kings downed the Deloraine Royals 9-1, the Bombers beat the Hartney Blues 4-2, and the Farmers defeated the Carberry Plainsmen 5-2.


The Brandon Wheat Kings began their six-game homestand with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Prince Albert Raiders. Niall Crocker scored the tying goal with 1:16 left in regulation and Justice Christensen potted the winner 53 seconds into OT for the Raiders. Dominik Petr scored a pair of goals for the Wheat Kings who despite the loss, extended their points streak to seven games. Marcus Nguyen and Caleb Hadland had the other Brandon goals.


Ryan Wiebe, Shaela Hayward, Ty Dilello and Jennifer Clark-Rouire finished fourth at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario. The Manitoba champions lost 7-4 to Owen Purcell of Nova Scotia in the semifinals and 9-4 to Kurt Balderston of Alberta in the bronze medal game. Purcell defeated Jason Ackerman of Saskatchewan 5-4 in the gold medal game.
