Liam Ernst made 22 saves in the Winkler Flyers 3-1 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals. Brody Beauchemin, Liam Carlone and Kam Thomas with his eighth of the season did the goal scoring for the defending Turnbull Cup champions.
The Pembina Valley Twisters dropped a 6-2 decision to the St. Vital Victorias. Darby Olson and Owen Vanrobaeys scored for the Twisters who were outshot 46-23 by the Vics.
Pembina Valley gave up four third period goals and fell 7-2 to the Winnipeg Bruins. Adrien McIntosh and Cole Second did the goal scoring for the Hawks who have lost three of four in November.
TJ Matuszewski scored the go-ahead goal with 4:44 left and the Red River Wild shaded Notre Dame 3-2 in the lone SEMHL game on Sunday. Colin Baudry and Justin Baudry also scored for the Wild. Jeff Michiels and Eli Carels replied for the Hawks.
The Manitoba Moose gave up four unanswered third period goals and lost 5-2 to the Texas Stars. Parker Ford and Ben King scored for the Moose who led 2-0 and 2-1 at the period breaks.
Emerance Maschmeyer made 37 saves as Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team downed the United States 4-1 in the third game of the Rivalry Series in Boise, Idaho. Emily Clark, Kristin O’Neill, Sarah Nurse and Ste. Anne’s Jocelyne Larocque scored for Canada.
The Grey Cup arrived in Vancouver Sunday. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts will fly to the west coast today. The Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 in the West Division Final on Saturday. The Argos beat the Montreal Alouettes 30-28 in the East Final. The 111th Grey Cup is scheduled for Sunday at BC Place.
Rachel Homan and Bruce Mouat captured the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open in Nisku, Alberta. Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes defeated Silvana Tirinzoni 7-5 in the women’s final. Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr. beat Brad Gushue 6-3 in the men’s final.
Aaron Cockerill fired rounds of 69-71-70-68 and finished tied for 46th place at the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship. The Stony Mountain native finished in 49th spot in the Race to Dubai rankings and will play in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai from November 14th-17th.
