Elisha Bambridge had a goal and two assists and Jason Bowles chipped in with four assists as the Virden Oil Kings defeated the Hartney Blues 7-5 in the lone Tiger Hills Hockey League game on Sunday. Mark Agnew and Taylor Wells had two goals each for the Blues.


Theron McGregor scored twice and the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Vincent Massey Vikings downed the Swan Valley Tigers 6-1. Jack Oakden had a pair of goals as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair downed Reston/Melita/Hartney/Souris 5-1. Rylan Dean scored the overtime winner as Crocus Plains blanked Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur 1-0. Myles Beatty had a goal and two helpers as the Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors beat Major Pratt 7-2.


The Southwest Cougars were 5-3 winners over the Interlake Lightning. Connor Hoemsen scored twice and Lynden Gould had a goal and three assists for the Cougars who trailed 2-0 after the first period and led 4-2 after forty minutes. Jack Polasek and Kole Beard into an empty net also scored for Southwest.


The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 3-1 decision to the defending Turnbull Cup champion Flyers in Winkler. Brett Sabel had the lone goal for the Caps.


The Manitoba Moose gave up four unanswered third period goals and lost 5-2 to the Texas Stars. Parker Ford and Ben King scored for the Moose who led 2-0 and 2-1 at the period breaks.


Emerance Maschmeyer made 37 saves as Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team downed the United States 4-1 in the third game of the Rivalry Series in Boise, Idaho. Emily Clark, Kristin O’Neill, Sarah Nurse and Ste. Anne’s Jocelyne Larocque scored for Canada.


The Grey Cup arrived in Vancouver Sunday. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts will fly to the west coast today. The Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 in the West Division Final on Saturday. The Argos beat the Montreal Alouettes 30-28 in the East Final. The 111th Grey Cup is scheduled for Sunday at BC Place.


Rachel Homan and Bruce Mouat captured the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open in Nisku, Alberta. Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes defeated Silvana Tirinzoni 7-5 in the women’s final. Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr. beat Brad Gushue 6-3 in the men’s final.


Aaron Cockerill fired rounds of 69-71-70-68 and finished tied for 46th place at the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship. The Stony Mountain native finished in 49th spot in the Race to Dubai rankings and will play in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai from November 14th-17th.
