The Calgary Veterans Association recently received a Leg Up.
They were given a $200,000 donation from The Leg Up Foundation, the charitable arm of Spruce Meadows.
Among the services provided by the Veterans Association are a food bank and spaces for professional services.
The funds will also support the Pet Promise Program, which provides food, supplies, and veterinary services for veterans' pets.
The associations executive director, Marie Blackburn, was quoted in a release from the Leg Up Foundation, saying this is the largest donation they've ever received.
“This size of donation is groundbreaking for us, and it will help so many people during a time when they are struggling like never before.”
The funds were raised at the Leg Up Foundation's annual Unstoppable dinner and auction.
It'll go a long way to support local veterans, says Blackburn.
“We’ve intervened to stop 38 veterans and their families from being made homeless in the last few months... Last year, we saved 148 families from losing their homes."
