The U18 Women’s National Championships wrapped up in Quispamsis, New Brunswick on the weekend, and Team Saskatchewan came away from the tournament with a fourth-place finish.
Saskatchewan played British Columbia in the bronze medal game on Saturday. Saskatchewan would take an early lead, but British Columbia rallied back to win the game 4-2. Kiah Shields, who is captain of the U18 AAA Weyburn Gold Wings, had a goal in the loss, with Weyburn’s Rayna Hennie also picking up a point.
Weyburn had four connections in the tournament, including the two who factored into the game Saturday.
Addison Greve, who plays with the Ontario Hockey Academy U22 team, finished the tournament with a goal in six games. Hennie, who skates with the U18 AAA Swift Current Wildcats, would record four assists throughout the tournament.
Shields chipped in one goal in the tournament, while goaltender Amy Swayze, who is from Weyburn and is also on the U18 AAA Gold Wings, appeared in one game.
The players are now back with their respective clubs. Swayze and Shields, along with the rest of the U18 AAA Gold Wings, are back in action this coming weekend as they host Dakota College for a pair of exhibition games. The Wildcats, with Hennie back in the lineup, will take on the Battlefords Sharks in Rosetown on Saturday. Greve and the Ontario Hockey Academy play on Friday in Ottawa.
