The Okotoks Oilers have announced that they have struck a deal with defenceman Nathan Tobey from the USHL.
Tobey comes with a plethora of experience and has played with top-end talent with some players already in the NHL while he was with the USA National Team Development Program (USNTDP).
He ended up playing two years with the USNTDP, with three different age groups, the USNTDP U17, U18, and Juniors squad. Some notable names that he played with were Will Smith (San Jose Sharks), Gabe Perreault (New York Rangers first-round pick in 2023), Cole Eiserman (New York Islanders first-round pick in 2024), Zeev Buium (Minnesota Wild first-round draft pick in 2024), Ryan Leonard (Washington Capitals first-round pick in 2023), and more.
Tobey was playing in his third season in the USHL with his third team, the Omaha Lancers. In two previous seasons, he played with the USNTDP Junior squad in the USHL during the 2022-2023 season and played last year with the Madison Capitols.
With the Lancers, he posted two assists in 14 games.
He is committed to playing with Quinnipiac University of the NCAA once his junior career comes to a close.
