Suspect arrested on multiple charges following assault

A 46-year-old man from Portage la Prairie was arrested without incident on November 10 after RCMP responded to an assault call in the 200 block of Victoria Avenue.

Police were informed prior to arrival that the suspect might be armed and had four outstanding warrants. When officers arrived at the scene, the man was arrested, and police seized a firearm and ammunition from his residence.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including:

• Assault x 2
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
• Unsafe storage of a firearm, and
• Failing to comply with a release order x 4

He was remanded into custody and appeared in court on November 12. The victim did not require medical attention.
