Steinbach Regional captured the South Central Athletic Conference High School Volleyball AAAA Junior Varsity Boys championship banner Thursday night in Winnipeg. The Sabres swept the Olympiens 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 at College Jeanne-Sauve. Steinbach Regional went 10-0 in SCAC league play and won two playoff games this season. It's the Sabres first junior varsity boys championship banner since 2019. 


The Eastman Selects lost 4-3 in overtime to the Winnipeg Thrashers at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour. Crosby Harrison potted the winner on the power play at 4:59 of OT for the Thrashers. Colter Martens, Josh Borgfjord and Lucas Laramee scored in regulation for the Selects who have lost four of their last five games.


The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 4-1 decision to Tampa Bay. Jake Guentzel scored twice for the Lightning. Adam Lowry had the lone goal for the Jets who suffered just their second loss of the season. Winnipeg had a chance to become the fastest team in NHL history to get 16 wins in a season (17 games). The Jets (15-2) wrap up their three-game road trip Saturday when they meet the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.


Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira is the CFL's Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian. Oliveira led the league in rushing yards for the second year in a row and also led the CFL in yards from scrimmage. Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. is the Most Outstanding Defensive Player; Toronto's Janarian Grant is the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player; Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman is Ryan Hunter of the Argos; Edmonton Elks linebacker Nick Anderson the Most Outstanding Rookie and Montreal's Jason Maas is the Coach of the Year. The Blue Bombers will meet the Argonauts in the 111th Grey Cup Sunday in Vancouver.


The International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission wrapped up its three-day visit to check out selected venues and track the progress of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Next year, the Games plan, venues & competition schedule, medal event program and athlete quota will be finalized.

The Swarm are in second place in the West Division with a 4-2 record

The Macdonald Swarm will face the Ste. Anne Aces and Springfield Xtreme this weekend. Swarm coach Darren Wiechern will join Clayton Dreger on the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Report which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
