A High River couple is sliding into retirement earlier than expected after a $2 million lotto win.

Theresa Bourdeau and Charles King won the hefty lump sum on the Oct. 5 Western 649 draw, but it took a bit of time for the to realize it.

At first, Bordeau thought they'd only won $2,000, even after checking multiple times.

It was only after she told her partner that they realized the full scope of their win.

"She said, 'We won $2,000!' I told her to let me take a look at it," said King in a release from the WCLC.

"He took a look and said, 'Well, there's no $2,000, but there is $2 million!'" Bourdeau said. "I was just shocked!"

The lump sum will allow the couple to get a head start on their retirement plans and spend more time with their grandkids.

They're also currently thinking about a trip to Jamaica.

The couple got their winning ticket at the Rexall on 5 Ave SW in High River.
