A rib night fundraiser is taking place on Friday at the Crushed Can to help a 15-year-old Moose Jaw boy and his family as he battles High Risk B-cell lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Landin Wrubleski was diagnosed with Leukemia on March 31, 2023, at the age of 13. He was able to complete his frontline chemo in April 2024.
For seven months into maintenance chemo, things were looking promising. Then, devastating news: cancer cells were found in his monthly bloodwork as the Leukemia cells had mutated to become immune to the chemotherapy.
Since then, it has been a whirlwind adventure for Wrubleski when his family got a last-minute call that he would be admitted into the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
“He received the call on Monday, Oct. 7, that he had to go to the children's hospital by Tuesday evening, admitted in-patient at least for 29 days. This will be followed by two more months in Saskatoon between hospitals and, hopefully, the Ronald McDonald House if the treatments go well,” said fundraiser organizer Bobbie Kivol.
After his stay in Saskatoon, Wrubleski will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant. However, it will be a long stay out-of-province.
“This will be taking place out of province and will be either Winnipeg or Calgary and the stay will be three to four months. It sounds easy enough, but being away from home, not seeing his brothers, pets, and friends, it’s hard for any 15-year-old just starting to learn to navigate high school. He’s missed out on so much of being a kid already,” Kivol said.
Tickets for the rib night can be purchased in advance by contacting Jen Charters at 306-681-5372 or email jencharters@hotmail.ca, or Kivol at 306-631-8979 or email biccum@hotmail.com. Tickets are also available if you stop by DD Truck and Trailer Repair at 13-5 Caribou St. E.
