The holiday season is fast approaching and a few volunteers in Strathmore are doing their part to help out seniors for Christmas.

The Strathmore Secret Santas are working on the Stockings for Seniors initiative which focuses on seniors from Wheatland Lodge and Sagewood to ensure their wish lists of gifts are fulfilled.

From there, people in the community will match with them and give them their presents.

Leanne Conrad one of the Secret Santas says items like slippers, candies, and treats are big asks from seniors.

"My grandmother who's 96 and still living on her own, doesn't necessarily always get out all the time, but she likes to still send out birthday cards. A birthday card and a roll of stamps so you can send out those messages throughout the year."

Conrad says the campaign was picked up last year and one present was presented to each resident at Sagewood.

According to Conrad, the community is key as they've partnered with the Bow Valley Beef and Multi 4-H Club.

"They're going to be personally delivering each one of the community presents."

Packages are due to Sagewood and Wheatland Lodge by December 18.

Conrad mentioned that a sign-up form is available to help bridge the gap between local seniors, singles, and people who are homebound.

"We just want to spread some cheer and make sure everybody is touched," says Conrad.

Residents can nominate a senior here and sponsor oneĀ here.
