Don’t put away your shovels quite yet - A further 10 to 20 cm of snow is expected to fall in Moose Jaw over the weekend.
Chris Stammers, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said a strong system is expected to move through the area, bringing light snows on Friday, with heavy snow starting on Saturday during the day.
“There’s a low-pressure system over Montana, and that will support an area of snow to the north over much of southern Saskatchewan.”
Saturday will see a high of minus 9 nearing minus 19 with the windchill.
The heavier snowfall on Saturday is expected to start tapering off into early Sunday morning, with the temperature reaching a daytime high of minus 11.
It’s not expected to come with as much wind as this week’s earlier snowfall. “Really not looking at too much – just some easterly winds of 20 km/h, maybe a gust to 40 km/h, but pretty light winds for the most part.”
He added that the weekend system is expected to be widespread. “The system will move into the southwest on the overnight into Saturday morning, and then it’ll pretty much extend all the way up as far north as Prince Albert, and then all the way down to the southeast – so down to Estevan.”
“It’ll be pretty widespread across the south.”
Stammers encourages people to have some way to receive weather watches and warnings, adding that some options are to download the WeatherCAN app, or visit the weather.gc.ca website.
