One person was taken to hospital early Friday morning, following a highway crash south of Steinbach involving two cows.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says their crews were called to the scene shortly after 5 am. It happened along Highway 12, just south of Road 32 North, or Ridge Road.

Wiebe says there were two occupants in the vehicle. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

According to Wiebe, both cows died in the crash. Wiebe says they are investigating where the cows came from.

Shortly after that call, the Hanover Fire Department responded to the scene of a crash north of Blumenort. Wiebe says it happened along Highway 12 at Road 42 North, shortly before 7 am.

Wiebe says there were two vehicles involved in the crash and only minor physical injuries.

Meanwhile, Wiebe would like to remind motorists not to proceed through pylons set up at a crash scene. He says at numerous scenes this week, they have had motorists attempting to drive around the pylons that are blocking traffic. Wiebe says these pylons are there to protect both the victims of a crash and also emergency crews.

"If you see fire trucks or firefighters blocking off traffic please respect that," urges Wiebe. "There is a reason why we block this off, it's for our safety, it's for the safety of the people involved in the accident. So please don't try and drive through it, you will be stopped."

The Hanover Fire Department has responded to four motor vehicle collisions in the last two days. Wiebe says none of them were the result of poor road conditions.
