A 28-year-old male is facing charges after attempting to assault an officer in Point Douglas.
On Nov. 21, at 4:22 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a call in regards to an adult male who was armed with a firearm in Point Douglas.
Members of the Central, North, and East District General Patrol, Tactical Support Unit (TST), and K9 Unit responded to the report. The Major Crimes Unit was in the area due to an unrelated matter and noticed a male suspect matching the description of the suspect in the rear lane of the first 100 block of Lorne Avenue.
One officer was exiting their vehicle when the suspect brandished a knife, attempting to stab them through the open window. The door was successfully used as a shield and the officer was not injured.
The 28-year-old has been taken into custody without further incident. Officers seized the knife, as well as a replica firearm was recovered.
The Winnipeg native faces the following charges:
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Two counts of Possession of a Weapon
