Just days after winds and snow hit Weyburn and much of the province, another snowfall is coming into the land of the living skies. Here in the southeast, the snow is expected to start falling later in the day tomorrow, while areas to the north could see it a bit sooner.
Jenny Hagan is the Discover Weyburn severe weather expert. She says the models don't necessarily agree on how much snow could fall in Weyburn, but they do agree on one thing.
“Originally, this track was tracking quite a bit further south, which brought those snowfall totals up for the Weyburn area,” Hagan said of the system. “But as model runs continue through the day, as we're hitting a little closer to the date of Saturday, those snowfall amounts are shifting north and more to the central areas.”
The modelling from the College of DuPage's NEXLAB shows the system will pass through the province, with the bulk of it to the north of Weyburn. The timing will be similar to the system that prompted a snowfall warning in Weyburn this past Saturday, which blanketed streets with wet, heavy snow. So, how much does Hagan think we'll get this time here in the Weyburn area?
“The further south, we'll likely see closer to that 5cm range as this system moves through, with the northern portions seeing closer to that 20cm range.”
Behind this system will be cooler temperatures, and something not many people like to deal with when the temperature drops, high winds. These winds won't be as intense as Tuesday, but will still pack a wallop.
“When we have these cooler temperatures, the snow is lighter, fluffier, and it moves around a lot more so that 40km is definitely enough to reduce visibility out on those roadways,” Hagan added.
