Ernest Joseph Korchinski

The death of Ernest “Ernie” Joseph Korchinski of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, November 21, 2024. He was 90 years of age. Ernie was born on June 19, 1934, to Mike and Lucy (nee Pietrucha) Korchinski in Ituna, SK. He attained his education at Wyber School in the Tullymet School Division, Ituna. In 1955, Ernie married Patricia “Pat” Sawchuk. Their union was blessed with three children, Kalvin, Cliff and Sharon. Ernie and Pat farmed in the Ituna area from 1957 to 1958. They moved to Regina, SK, where they resided until 1989. Another move was made to Edmonton, AB, and they lived there until 2003. At that time, Ernie and Pat moved to Cudworth, SK, and resided there until 2020. A final move was made to Humboldt where they resided together until the present. Over the years, Ernie was employed in a variety of occupations, including Cindercrete (1957 to 1958), McMillan Blodel (Martin Paper) (1958-1962), Subterranean Piling/Earthwork Piling/Canada Caissons (1962-1977), he started his own company Marine Water Wells (1977-1981), owner/operator of a transport truck and hauled for Kleysen Transport (1981-1983), obtained his real estate licence and sold real estate (1983-1985), bought and managed the motel in Ituna (1985-1986), bought land in the Tullymet District and farmed (1985-1986), moved to Regina and drove school bus (1986-1989), moved to Edmonton in 1989 and worked in the piling industry (which he liked best) until 2003, moved to Cudworth and dabbled in various ventures (Mr. Fix It handy man) including working in the lumber yard for Mike Wildie (2003-2020). Ernie and Pat enjoyed road trip travelling with their children for many years to go camping or just Sunday drives to the farm to see their parents and kids’ grandparents. They also had many adventures to Vancouver, BC, and took cruises and trips to Mexico with family. Ernie enjoyed his daily walks and visiting and having coffee with all his friends at the condo and church when he wasn’t busy working. He was also a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. Ernie is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Korchinski; two children: son Kalvin (Gloria), and daughter Sharon (Tim); daughter-in-law, Brenda Knoll; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Lucy (nee Pietrucha) Korchinski; father, Mike Korchinski; son, Cliff Korchinski; great-grandson, Tyie Fisher; two brothers: Emile Korchinski, and Eugene Korchinski; and numerous other family members over the years. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Maksym and Blake Korchinski, cross bearers; Teri Dubuc and Tyler Korchinski, scripture readers; Tenille Korchinski and Tyrah Korchinski, intentions; Deseree Maier and Courteney Rhinehart, gift bearers; Codie Korchinski and Kyla Oswald, memorial table attendants; Ida Rose, music ministry; Mike Wilde, Matt Fischer and Shelly Korchinski, eulogists. An honor guard was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Fund (P.O.
