The Community Foundation of Portage and District's funds distribution has been announced, with Portage's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 being awarded $24,443.69.
Bob Oldford, past President and Media Liaison for the Legion, says the funds are going toward some accessibility upgrades.
"The money's going to rebuild the ramps at the Legion that allows access to upstairs and downstairs for veterans and others within the community. It will be redoing the ramps with new flooring, taking the old carpeting out, replacing it with non-slip washable flooring, as well as doing some repairs to the supports underneath."
Oldford adds that the funding is not something they take for granted.
"It's great to have it, we're very thankful for it. The fact is that giving us the ability to make the whole building accessible to any and all that are coming in is fantastic. It also allows our seniors and our veterans to have more mobility within the building."
Oldford shares his thanks to the Community Foundation and adds that this project has been on their minds for some time, and the extra funds will help them get it completed.
