UPDATE:

The accident on Highway #16 on November 25 at about 5:40 p.m., occurred before a Manitoba First Nations Police officer travelling along Highway 16 came upon it. Two vehicles were in the collision near Macdonald, about 25 kilometres north-west of Portage.

RCMP officers from Portage la Prairie, along with EMS and the local fire department, arrived at the scene.

The investigation determined that a southbound SUV, driven by a 47-year-old man from Winnipeg, veered over the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound SUV, being driven by a 50-year-old woman from Winnipeg. Police determined visibility may have been a factor in the collision.

The 50-year-old woman was pronounced deceased on scene. The 47-year-old man was transported to local hospital and then to Winnipeg for further treatment.

Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.

Two calls regarding road collisions came in on Monday, November 25, to the Portage Fire Department.

One incident occurred at 5:40 p.m. on Hwy. 16 at Road 47 and is still under investigation. Two vehicles were involved, resulting in one fatality. The driver of the second vehicle had to be extricated and was transported to Portage Hospital and then to the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg.

Another call came in on Monday evening at about 10:50 at Road 47 and Hwy. 16. Captain Stephen Moffit outlines the details.

"It was a semi just east of the junction of #1 and #16. The semi went off the road, rolled and both occupants were out of the vehicle when we arrived. There was no transport to hospital. Somebody went off the road and rolled and wasn't carrying anything. It ripped the cab right off the frame. And no extrication on that one."

"We would definitely advise that the temperature we're at makes for very slippery road conditions and we would advise caution and for people to slow down a little bit."
