John Paul Schenn
December 13, 1936 – November 29, 2024
John Schenn, 87 years, of Humboldt passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Humboldt District Hospital with his family at his side. John was born on December 13, 1936 at Scott, SK to John and Stephena (nee Silvernagel) Schenn. He grew up in Scott and attended school there, followed by St. Thomas College in North Battleford. In 1956, John moved to Humboldt to work with his brother Carl at Schenn’s Hatchery. Shortly after moving to Humboldt, John met and then later married Anita Berger. They raised a family of five, four sons and one daughter. In 1969 John decided to open his own business know as Schenn’s Service Center, which included a bulk fuel service and gas station. In 1986 his son David began working with him. In 1991, John and David opened a new business, Schenn’s Farm Supply. John believed that when working in the service industry you were there to serve your customers and serve them well, that meant evenings, weekends and even Christmas Day. John loved being at his shop, visiting with the customers, and providing top notch service. He had an amazing memory and would remember his customers names and details about their lives for many years. John retired from actively working in December 2022 when his physical health started to decline. John served two terms on Humboldt Town Council and was instrumental in the process of having the Humboldt Uniplex built and the Harry Ford Center. He also served on the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Board and was chairperson of the Waldsea Lake Board. When he took on these roles, his attitude was that of hard work to get things accomplished, and pushed others to do the same. He enjoyed going out to different restaurants, socializing and having a great meal with friends. In 2000, Anita passed away and after some time John met Delores Thiemann who was also widowed. The two spent 22 happy years together and his family grew to include her five children and their families. John will be lovingly remembered by his spouse Delores Thiemann; three sons, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Gary (Shauna) Schenn and family Chris (Jackie) Schenn and children Addison and Brynn; David (Dianne) Schenn and family Alex Schenn (Sarah Maier); Shannon (Howard) Lamont and family Carter (Rebecca) Lamont and children Slade and Anders and Mark Schenn and family Rayden Schenn (Alisha Doan), Katanna Schenn and Drake Schenn; daughter-in-law Keryn Schenn and family Robyn (Dallas) Koski and children Drayson and Ethan and Andy (Ashton) Schenn and children Berkley, Lindi, and Olson; sister-in-law Colleen Meldrum; and numerous nieces and nephews; Delores’s children and their families: Chris (Rhonda) Thiemann, Valerie (Randy) Corensen, Corinne (Jeff) Thoms, Karen Thiemann, and LeVawn (Sean) Underwood.
