The Estevan Public Library—a host for many festive activities—is set to hold a Christmas Social this week, featuring crafts, cookies, hot chocolate, and live music courtesy of The Way and the Weening Family.

The Weening Family first broke onto the Estevan music scene with a performance at this year’s Estevan United Way Telethon. Featuring Jason Weening and nine of his ten children, the family band has become a local favourite. Jason and his son Justice stopped by SUN 102 to share what people can expect from the upcoming festive event.

"Our family is going to be one of the bands playing. And then after us, Kevin and his band, The Way is going to be doing some more Christmas carols." shared Jason "it's going to be kind of a social like a living room concert, low key, no sound system, we've got a lot of acoustic instruments... Just a fun night of singing Christmas carols and having a good time."

Justice added that while performing in front of a crowd can be nerve-wracking at times, he enjoys being part of the experience. Jason reflected on the joys and challenges of playing with his family. “It’s fun, but it has its moments. We’ve been practising almost every day for the last week or so, and sometimes not everyone is excited about it. But it’s important for the kids to see that practice is necessary. When you get on stage, you’ve got to know your stuff,” he explained. “Making mistakes is part of life. You just keep going, and that’s a great lesson for the kids.”

Live music is just one highlight of the evening. The library will also offer crafts, cookies, and hot chocolate, along with a chance for attendees to drop off toys for the Angel Tree Project.

The Christmas Social will take place at the Estevan Public Library on Thursday, December 12, starting at 6:00 PM. Admission is free, making it a great opportunity for families to enjoy the festive season together. For more details, visit the Estevan Public Library’s Facebook page.
