The Town of Didsbury has announced that the Didsbury arena and curling rink will be closed for the rest of the season.

According to a press release, the reason is due to an ammonia leak that was discovered in the condenser unit/cooling tower on the exterior of the facility during regular maintenance of the ice plant.

"The town's trusted contractor has advised that the condenser has failed and repairs are not an option."

According to the town, the condenser was scheduled for replacement in the 2027 budget, but that will now be completed in early 2025.

"Due to the hazards associated with ammonia breaches and for the safety of all users, staff, and the community, the arena and curling rink will both remain closed until such time that the unit can be replaced, which is estimated within the next three to four months."

Didsbury is working with the contractor to follow all the protocols to deal with the situation. More updates will be provided on the project as it progresses.
