Family and friends are mourning the loss of philanthropist and entrepreneur, John Buhler.
Mayor Scott Gillingham put out a statement Sunday afternoon saying he is deeply saddened by this news.
Gillingham says Buhler was a man whose remarkable contributions and enduring legacy have left a lasting mark on our community.
"Through his leadership and development of Buhler Industries, John Buhler played a major role in building Winnipeg’s capacity as a centre of modern agribusiness."
John Buhler purchased Morden's Standard Gas Engine Works in 1969 and renamed it Farm King Limited. By 1994 it had grown into a farm equipment empire, which would eventually become Buhler Industries.
John was not only a visionary entrepreneur, he and his wife Bonnie have also been among Winnipeg’s most generous philanthropists.
"Their contributions have profoundly shaped our city, from supporting health care and education to enhancing our cultural and recreational spaces. Their kindness and dedication to building a better Winnipeg inspired countless others to give back and make a difference," said Gillingham.
In 2011, John Buhler said, “I’m a dreamer. From dreams, you get ideas, and from ideas you set goals. Goals need to be visualized.”
"I believe this is the way Winnipeggers will always remember him: as a dreamer, who was not afraid to dream big dreams and to see them through to reality."
It's unclear as to Buhler's cause of death. John was in his 90s.
