Robert Paul Bendig
September 16th, 1953 - December 20th, 2024
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Paul Bendig on December 20th, 2024. “Bobby,” as he was affectionately known, was born on September 16th, 1953, to Nicholas and Betty (nee Winterbottom) Bendig in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He grew up in the rural community of Bruno, SK, alongside his nine siblings, on the family homestead. He began his education at Kildrum Rural School and continued at Bruno High School. He then went on to work at the Colonsay Potash Mine for 30 years where he discovered his lifelong passion of prehistoric rock formations and fossils. In addition to his work at the mine, Bobby was a skilled craftsman with a remarkable eye for detail. He showed his patience and expertise when he was frequently called upon to dismantle and repurpose historical buildings. His hands often marked with dust and mortar, tells the story of a man who found beauty in the worn and weathered. He cherished antiques and sculptures, often seeing stories and history where others saw only objects. He reveled in the process of restoring classic vehicles, tending to many projects and appreciating the shine their exteriors regained from long ago. Though he has left this world, Bobby’s spirit remains as enduring as the rocks and fossils he loved – etched in time and unyielding to the ages. Bobby was survived by: brother Warren Bendig (Hope); sister Debbie Bendig; sister Judy Bendig (Mark),their children Nicole Lynchuk and Kayla Bendig; brother Terry Bendig; sister Kathy Mcbeth, (Dave), their child Dallas Mcbeth; sister Sandra Stroud (Carie), their children Sheri Rivers and Nicholas Steil; sister Karen Wasylyshen (James) their child Anthony Kwok; sister Paulette Boychuk (Gary), their children: Jordan Mark, Rachel Boychuk, and Garret Boychuk; and great nephews, and nieces: Carter, Tatum, Micah, Daniel, Austin, Cassandra, Olivia, Elijah, Jo, Faith, Rabecca, and Claire. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date
