It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert Lechler announces his peaceful passing on January 4th, 2025, at the Humboldt District Hospital. He was 91 years of age. Herbert was born on July 8th, 1933, to Fred and Frieda (née Weismann) Lechler in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of three children and grew up on the family farm east of Middle Lake, SK. He attended Middle Lake Rural School until Grade 8 and then began working on the farm with his brother Ed. Back then work on the farm was from dawn to dusk and was very labour intensive. Many hours were spent ploughing the fields with a team of horses and harvesting bundles to thresh. Herbert had a love of animals; he particularly enjoyed his time working with the cattle on his horse Nelly and with their dog Seppy. It wasn’t until 1971 that he met the love of his life, Ingrid Mack, in Germany while there visiting family with his mother Freida. He must have made quite the impression on her as she soon moved to Canada, and they were married on July 15, 1972. Their union was blessed with three sons: Mark, Terry, and Kevin. Herbert continued to run the family farm until his retirement, while his new love focused on his family. He spent countless hours playing with his kids and eventually his four grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was a kind and gentle soul. Herbert will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by: his wife of 52 years, Ingrid Lechler of Middle Lake, and their three children and their families: Mark (Renessa) of Middle Lake, and family: Meagan, Brandon, and Jessica; Terry (Jay) of Raleigh, NC, and son Tim; and Kevin (Jade) of Saskatoon, SK; brothers-in-law: Henry Meyers of Saskatoon, and Karl(Sonia) Mack of Germany; sister in law Gerlinde(Karl) Burmann of Germany; and numerous extended family. He was preceded by: his parents Fred (1979) and Frieda (2008); brother Ed (1999); and sister Hedy (2021). A private family celebration of life and graveside internment will be held at a later date.
