The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) catchment area is currently on track with the provincial numbers when it comes to first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.  

From statistics provided by the NWHU, 128,819 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in our region as of November 4, 2021.  

In the region, 89.3% of people have received their first dose and 83.6% of people have received their second dose. In comparison with the provincial numbers, 88.3% of Ontarians have received their first dose and 84.8% of Ontarians have received their second dose.  

To date, the NWHU catchment area has seen 1,192 resolved cases of COVID-19.  

There are 5 active cases of COVID-19 in the region as of November 4, 2021.  

In a recent press release, the Government of Ontario announced that more residents will soon be eligible for their third dose of the vaccine. Ontario will be offering COVID-19 booster doses to eligible residents if at least six months have passed since their second dose. 

Eligible residents include: 

  • Those aged 70 and over 

  • Healthcare workers and designated caregivers, 

  • First Nations, Inuit and Metis adults and their non-Indigenous household members, 

  •  Individuals who received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
