Bernard “Bernie” Ferdinand ven der Buhs
June 19, 1943 – January 5, 2025
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Bernard “Bernie” ven der Buhs announces his passing on January 5, 2025. He was 81 years of age. Bernie was born on June 19, 1943, in Leroy Hospital, Leroy, SK to William and Maria (née Nordick) ven der Buhs. He was raised on a farm near Englefeld with his nine brothers and sisters. He attended Englefeld School where he met the love of his life, Anita. Following his graduation from high school in 1962, Bernie purchased land from his father and began farming. He also worked for Fritz Brecker making church pews and other furniture and worked as a foreman for Schmitz Brothers. He dedicated over 40 years to Schulte Industries, where he retired in 2014. Bernie and Anita were married on October 23, 1965, and they took over the ven der Buhs homestead where they enjoyed their 52 years of marriage in which they were blessed with four children. Through the years, Bernie and Anita enjoyed taking many outdoor adventures. They went hunting throughout Saskatchewan, travelling to BC, Alaska and many other scenic places with family and friends. Bernie and Anita cherished all the seasons at Barrier Lake, as well as time spent at the hunting cabins. The couple treasured visits from all those who gathered there for many campfires, coffee and wine. Bernie was a treasured husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. We will miss his gifts of laughter, guidance and love, but peace and freedom has finally been gifted to him. Bernie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by: his children and their families: Randolph (Koren) and daughter, Caitlin (Trevor); Lloyd and children, Nathan, Christopher (Jena) - their son Myles, and Chelsea; Glen (Rosalie) and children, Nicholas (Julia), and Sidney (Austin); and Jane (Jeff); his brothers: Willie (Marie), and Ray (Delores), his sister Gertrude (Wallace), and sisters in law, Marie ven der Buhs, and Mary Lee Plemel (Terry); and all the extended family. He was predeceased by his wife Anita (née Plemel); parents, William and Maria; his brothers: Raymond (Madeline), and Henry; and sisters: Elizabeth (Bob), Wilhelmina (Gilbert), Marie (Alfred), and Angeline (Arnold). Bernie, may you rejoice in your reunion with Anita, walk through the fields of gardens and flowers and feel all the love we have to offer you.
