Rob Carnie - It's Take Five with Carnie and Carmichael featuring Moose Jaw city manager Maryse Carmichael on DiscoverMooseJaw.com. We're starting off with some exciting news.
Moose Jaw is Canada’s Most notorious host city in 2025, and that is underway this weekend. The Sask Selects Football Program is hosting a very large football tournament at Yara Centre, Maryse. Fabulous!
There are kids from across the Prairie provinces, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. 24 teams in total, including kids and their families from across the United States, Boston and California and even Mexico in Moose Jaw spending money and enjoying our city. It’s just wonderful, isn't it?
Maryse Carmichael - It is. We have tourists coming to Moose Jaw all year long, but especially in the winter, at this time we have so many competitions and championships that are coming to Moose Jaw.
Moose Jaw is so vibrant all year long, so yes, January 9th to 12th, the Saskatchewan Selects Battle on the Prairies is happening. A reminder to our residents that the track and the turf will be closed for those days, the 9th to the 12th. But other than that, come and see some really high caliber football happening at the Yara Center.
Rob - Years ago, people wondered why we were building an indoor field house. Well, for the health of local people, for sure, who make great use of our Yara Center and to attract people to our city, right?
Maryse - That's it! So, between the events that are happening this weekend and between now and the end of June, we're talking about 3,200 athletes that will be in Moose Jaw for various competitions, championships, and of course, let's not forget at the end of March, we will have the World Men’s Curling Championship, the BKT Tires Championship March 29th to April 6th, that will see athletes from around the world competing for the world title.
Rob - That, of course, is at the Moose John Event Center.
Maryse - That's correct.
Rob – Fabulous! Anything else to add about being Canada's most notorious host city this year?
Maryse - Well, let's not forget our youth. Lots of competitions, whether it's hockey, curling, gymnastics, all happening in Moose Jaw and we are hosting all those teams.
Rob - Awesome.
