Hilda Therres
April 16, 1932 – January 11, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Hildegard (Hilda) Therres (nee Meschishnick) announces her passing on January 11, 2025 at the Humboldt District Health Centre. Hilda was born on April 16, 1932 to Rosa and Herman Meschishnick of St. Gregor, Saskatchewan at home on the farm.
She attended school in St. Gregor. Hilda met Walter Therres and they married June 17, 1952 at St. Gregor Roman Catholic Church. Together they were blessed with 5 children.
Hilda was employed at St. Mary’s Villa and then St. Elizabeth’s Hospital as a care aide, in the housekeeping department and laundry. She was valued as a compassionate caring nurse and hard worker by her peers. In retirement Hilda and Walter enjoyed many years of travel in Canada and the US.
While working she was involved as a Girl Guide leader. When she retired she volunteered at funeral lunches, Meals on Wheels and The Good Neighbor Store. She loved going to her children and grandchildren’s sports activities to cheer them on whether it was hockey, baseball, curling or swim meets.
Hilda had a creative mind. She had numerous hobbies, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting and helping Walter with many wood projects that were meticulously designed. She taught her children and grandchildren her hobbies and many have inherited the gene in which they are grateful!
Mom had a green thumb. She had the most beautiful back yard. Manicured trees, shrubs, beautiful flowers and the most humongous sized hostas that filled the yard. Mom and Dad were winners of Humboldt is Blooming Award for their beautiful yard.
Hilda was a generous hostess and talented cook and baker. She loved having her family, grandchildren and friends over for meals. Whether it was a family dinner, cookies, cakes or a holiday feast. It was always a treat to sit at Hilda’s table in her small kitchen. Her meals were prepared with skill and love.
We will be forever grateful to our mom and grandma for her love, wisdom and the support she shared with us over the years.
Hilda is lovingly remembered and will be sadly missed by her children Shirley Seidel of Humboldt and family Chad Lins (Kristin) and family Beckett, Mason, and Alexandra of Winnipeg, MB, and Carmen (Kyle) Fraser and family Dallin, Shae and Landon of Humboldt; Bev (Brian) Loose of Saskatoon and family Jaret (Erin) Loose of Saskatoon, Jana (Aaron) Brown and family Rowan and Olivia of Elkford, B.C. and Justin Loose of Tsawwassen, B.C.; Cheryl (Kevin) McNally and family Amber McNally (Alex Brischuk), Mitch (Allie) McNally and family Ellianna and William, all of Saskatoon; Maureen (Gord) Lees and family Kara (Dawson) Braitenbach and family Bentley and Max, and Shelby (Rhett) Blackmur, all of Humboldt; Kurt (Amanda) Therres of Saskatoon and family Carson (Kyla) Therres of Edmonton, AB and Morgan (Roryck) Baptiste of Saskatoon; and sisters-in-law Helen Meschishnick of Humboldt and Lorraine McMillan of Middle Lake.
Hilda was predeceased by her husband Walter Therres; son-in-law Mark Seidel; members of the Meschishnick family: brothers John (Sandy) Meschishnick, Anthony Meschishnick, Leo (Clody) Meschishnick, and Clarence Meschishnick, and sisters Mary (Lawrence) McCormick, Christine (August) Ries, Anne (Joe) Knaflec, and Theresa (Carl) Diebold.
It was Hilda’s wish not to have a funeral service. A private celebration of life for her immediate family was held. Memorial donations can be made to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (General Equipment Fund) 515 14th Ave. Humboldt, SK S0K2A0. Web: http://HDHfoundation.ca.
