Mary Ida (nee Taphorn) (Tameling) Korte

Mary Ida (née Taphorn) (Tameling) Korte passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was 103 years of age. Mary was born on September 6, 1921, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, to Ben and Mary (née Fouhse) Taphorn. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her four surviving children: Rose (Gerard) Goudreau, George (Donna) Tameling, Jerome (Dorothy) Tameling, and Margaret (Gerard) Korte; son-in-law, Larry Hinz; her 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Andrew Taphorn, Martha (Alec) Ropchan, and Ted (Karen) Taphorn; and her many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her first husband George Tameling (1988); second husband Joseph Korte (2009); son Bernard Tameling (1998); daughter Jeanette Hinz (2014); daughter-in-law Loretta (née Ulrich) Tameling (2024); parents Bernard and Mary (nee Fouhse) Taphorn; and 13 of her siblings and their spouses: Helen, Bernard and Joseph Taphorn (in infancy), Clara (John) Ropchan, Leo (Jean) Taphorn, Sr. Alexis Taphorn, OSU, Albert Taphorn, Margaret (Nick) Boran, Paul (Annie) Taphorn, Isabel (Bill) Ropchan, Bernadine (Eric) Gallant, Helen (Al) Jacobs, and Bernard Taphorn. The family thanks the staff of the Grey Nuns Hospital and Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre for their loving care and support during the last four-and-a-half months. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, SK, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Others taking part were: Riley Chivers, cross bearer; Marian Kiefer and Craig Hinz, scripture readers; Adele Challis, intentions; Shauna Ilg and Norma Saretsky, gift bearers; Lana Chivers and Rina Sibbeston, eulogists; and St. Peter’s Parish Choir, music ministry. Active pallbearers were Kevin Korte, Jeff Hinz, Cam Goudreau, Chad Tameling, Gord Tameling, and Tim Hinz. Interment was at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, followed by Memorial Friendship and Refreshments at the Muenster Community Centre.
