There were a number of Weyburn area hockey teams in action on the weekend, with most of those games on the road while Crescent Point Place and Tom Zandee Sports Arena hosted U11 tournaments.
U18 AAA Gold Wings
The Gold Wings were in Prince Albert for a pair of games against the Prince Albert Bears. Saturday, the Bears would come out with strong goaltending, and shut out the Gold Wings 2-0. Weyburn’s Amy Swayze had a strong game in net herself, stopping 43 of the 44 shots she faced in the loss, with the second goal from Prince Albert being an empty-netter.
Sunday afternoon the two teams played again, and it would be a back-and-forth affair with the Bears ultimately coming out on top 4-3. The Gold Wings had goals from Hannah Guttormson, Kiah Shields and Julia Durr in the loss.
The next game for the Gold Wings is Wednesday when they host the Regina Rebels at Crescent Point Place.
U18 AA John Hulbert Construction Wings
The U18 AA Wings played just one game this past weekend, as they were in Emerald Park for a matchup with Prairie Storm. The two teams exchanged goals through regulation, forcing overtime. There, Weyburn would get the game-winner to take a 4-3 victory.
Connor McIndoe, Morgan Lacoste, and Wyatt Chinski scored in regulation. Blaise Jorgensen would then get the game-winner in the extra period.
The U18 AA Wings are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Torquay to play the Estevan Bruins.
U18 AA Apex Gold Wings
The U18 AA Gold Wings had two games on the weekend, one at home and one on the road, and both would be victories.
Saturday they entertained the Western Prairie Thunder at the Harry O Memorial Arena in Midale. The Gold Wings would come out firing and topped the Thunder 6-2. Ella Schenher, Emma Holzer, Brooke Allan, Hadley Gerle, Tyra Kmita, and Samara Seghers all scored for the Gold Wings in the victory.
Sunday the Gold Wings were in Lumsden, where they took on the Lumsden Bethune Lynx. The Gold Wings would get an early lead and then held on for a 2-1 victory. Schenher and Allan had the goals for the Gold Wings.
The next game for the U18 AA Gold Wings is Friday when they host the Lynx in Radville.
U16 AA Agriterra Wings
The U16 Wing would play the same team in two different communities on the weekend, and both of those games resulted in wins for Weyburn, as they beat the Sask East Oilers twice.
Saturday the two teams played in Yorkton. While the Oilers outshot the Wings, Weyburn would come out on top winning 6-3. Andrew Hemphill, Maksim Sjodin, Reid Kosior, Liam Stubel, Ethan Rutledge, and Travis England all scored for the Wings in the victory.
Sunday, the teams played in Bredenbury. While there weren’t as many goals, the end result was a win for the Wings by a final of 3-2. Kosior, Chris Neufeld, and Austin Merkley all scored for Weyburn in the victory.
The U16 AA Wings will be back in action on Saturday when they entertain the Moose Jaw Warriors.
U15 AA Annugas Wings
The U15 AA Wings played just one game on the weekend. Friday night, they hosted the Regina Pat Blues at Crescent Point Place. The Pat Blues would come away with the win, rallying to beat the Wings 3-2.
Reid Spagrud and Ayden Warren scored the goals for the Wings, who are set to be back in action on February 1st when they visit the Sask East Oilers.
