A video recently posted on the City of Weyburn Facebook page saw Mayor Jeff Richards on the scene of the city’s new pothole repair machine at work. Richards says due to the required operating conditions of the machine; he was out with the city crews until 2 a.m.
“The machine itself has definitely got an operating range. So when it's minus 30, you just can't run that machine. It would just take forever to get that asphalt to that temperature. But those two nights that I was up there, I went out one night and I had some technical problems so I had to go back out the next night and redo it, both those nights were warm enough.”
Another reason for the nighttime work hours is to prevent disruptions to downtown traffic and businesses during the day.
Richards says he enjoyed being out with the crews, but the video served another purpose. He explains it’s important for himself and the community members to understand how city maintenance works.
This is not the only time Richards was on the scene; he also posted a video explaining the condition of the indoor pool on location at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

He also expresses his thanks to those working long hours to keep the city maintained.
“I have a lot of respect for the people that are out there at two o'clock in the morning. I mean, even though it was only minus 15, it was pretty cold, so I have a lot of respect for those guys out there working and everybody running the graders and the loaders and the trucks and the snowblowers and working all night.”
