Airdrie drivers should be prepared for hazardous road conditions if travelling north on the QEII this evening.

Road conditions on the QEII north of Airdrie, between the Junction with Highway 2A and south of Bowden, are partly snow-covered. Drifting snow and strong winds create bare wheel paths. While visibility remains good, slippery patches and reduced traction are possible, so drivers should stay vigilant and adjust their speed accordingly.

Further north, the RCMP are warning of whiteout conditions and strong winds between Red Deer and Leduc, where multiple collisions have already been reported.

According to 511 Alberta, Mounties have issued a tow ban on the QEII between Edmonton and Blackfalds. Reduced visibility and slippery sections have resulted in highly hazardous road conditions.

"Avoid travel until conditions improve," 511 noted.

The RCMP in central and northern Alberta advises that road conditions are extremely poor, specifically in Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Camrose County, Maskwacis, Ponoka, and areas around Edmonton. Due to the severe weather, visibility is extremely poor in many locations.

Police are actively responding to multiple collisions and reports of vehicle rollovers along Highway 2 between Red Deer and Leduc.

Environment Canada has issued a blowing snow advisory for parts of Alberta, though Airdrie has not been directly impacted.
